Spring has Sprung

Well, it seems winter is officially over in Alabama, not that I am sure we ever really had one to begin with. Life has been pretty chaotic around the Houston household and it doesn't appear that is going to change any time in the foreseeable future. February was a really fun month as we spent lots of time going to concerts and with family and friends. Our month long concert tour started with:

My parents gave us Rascal Flatts tickets for Christmas, so we put on our boots, met up with the fam and went to the show. I don't think it was either one of our favorite concerts (too many yippy teenagers and rowdy middle aged women), but we had a good time nevertheless.

For Kevin's birthday, I gave him tickets to see

Yonder Mountain String Band. They played at one of our favorite venues, Workplay. I had never really listened to much of their music but it turned out to be a great show.

We then had our friends Wes and Jill come into town so we could go see

Jimmy Buffet and the Coral Reefer Band at the BJCC. I think after the concert we are both unashamedly parrot heads. Jimmy put on a great show, and it is always good to catch up with Wes and Jill.

Our concert tour ended with

If you haven't had the opportunity to see a concert at the Alabama, it is a must for anyone who lives in the area. The venue is beautiful and has tons of great history. We are planning to go back as part of the film series they do every year.

This week was Rascal day at Cumberland so I thought it would be fun to take Charles with me to school. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Cumberland/Samford traditions, every year during law week, the law students get to bring their dogs to school as a tribute to Rascal, the old Cumberland Mascot. Charles got all gussied up, received 2 squirts of his deodorizing spray and  packed three new bones in my bag to hopefully distract him during my classes. Let's just say, that the bones did not distract him, Charles did not behave at school, and after approximately 2 hours Charles found himself back at home, all dressed up with no where to go. He didn't even make it to the parade. But, how could I really stay mad at this face:

Here are a few more recent pictures of Charles (Yes, I realize that we have become those people who treat their dog like a child and consequently have made peace with the love the devotion we have for our fur baby)

In other news, we have a new member of the family:

Meet Baby Cedric, my grandfather's new puppy. We can't wait until Cedric is big enough to play with Charles, and I am sure we will have some baby Cedric stories to share as well.

We also found out that one of my dad's hunting buddies, Butch, is the proud owner of two of Charles's relatives.

Meet Chopper and Ace, Chuck's Country cousins.

Today I was feeling especially springy, so I drug my sweet husband to his least favorite place on the face of the planet, a.k.a. Hobby Lobby. However, I think even he would agree the fruits of our labor were well worth it as our trip to Hobby Lobby resulted in this:

Now I know to all the pintresting fanatics out there, this is probably not that impressive, but to someone who almost failed elementary school art and subsequently college level art appreciation, this is quite an accomplishment. Baby steps, baby steps.

We are counting the days and hours until my spring break and going to Washington, D.C. and Annapolis, Maryland. I plan to show Kevin all my old stomping grounds in D.C., and we are looking forward to some quality family time with Michele, Phil and Savannah in Annapolis. I suppose I should arrange Charles's supervision ASAP. I think its about time for him to bond with his grandparents again.

Hope spring has sprung for all of you! Smile a Corgi loves you!
